.: Current News

August 13, 2007. I am ever-so-slowly working on SuperDoku 2.0. I have been working at my internship all summer, so I've had very little time to spare. I also just bought a new Pocket PC (the Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX N560) which set me back $650, but will allow me to test SuperDoku 2.0 in all its VGA glory. Which reminds me, I could definitely use a small donation from you to help pay for this device. A PayPal link is at the bottom of this page. Also, if you're interested in beta testing 2.0 so you can see all the new features before it's released, please send me an email!

May 22, 2007. I just added another batch of skins for SuperDoku 1.1, so check them out below. I have not updated this site in quite a while, and I'd just like to let everyone know that I'm still alive and working on SuperDoku 2.0 I'm just finishing up another semester at college (I'm studying Computer Engineering, math and physics at Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA), so I will have much more time available for programming in the summer. I expect SuperDoku 2.0 to be officially released before the end of the summer, so keep checking back. Also, you can email me if you want me to let you know as soon as it is released, or if you want to try out the beta version right now!

SuperDoku is the wildly-popular SuDoku program for the Pocket PC. It has received nothing but great reviews because of its rich graphics, unique features and ease of use. SuperDoku 1.1 is still the most-current public version, but I am working on SuperDoku 2.0, which will add full support for VGA, QVGA, Square, and Square VGA screens, as well as improvements to nearly all of the SuperDoku 1.1 functions and NO MORE MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS! (except on Hardest, of course). Ohh, you should see how awesome the VGA skins look! Here's a screenshot to tantalize you until the official release is made:

Yeah, those 3's are dimmed because the board contains all nine 3's, so they needn't draw the user's attention any longer (this is an option-controlled feature). Also, notice the undo and redo buttons? You can go all the way back to the beginning of the game! (don't worry, I'll be updating the icons). Which brings me to my next section:

.: I need Help with SuperDoku 2.0!

If any of you have an interest in helping me find errors, fix bugs, and introduce new features to SuperDoku 2.0, please send me an email: <Contact Me>. Also, I'll need some new VGA-quality skins to release with 2.0, so if anyone out there is good with graphics, I'd be honored to include a skin created by you (you even get your own ego-boosting "made by" logo in the skin selection screen) in the official release. Just send me an email and I'll send you a version of SuperDoku 2.0 for you to use in your skin creation. In addition, if you fluently speak English and any other language, I'd love your help in translating SuperDoku to your langauge!

As far as SuperDoku 1.1 goes:

.: New Skins!

Click image to download. Extract the .PNG file from the zip file onto your pocket pc into the /Program Files/SuperDoku/Skins folder. Email me if you need further instructions.

Mozart

A skin for musicians. Created by Kenneth Cox, who has also provided a VGA version for SuperDoku 2.0! (of course, you'll have to sign up as a beta tester to be able to use it before the official release! <Contact Me>)

Lithos

An elegant, quirky skin by Phil Couling, who has promised some VGA contributions.

Cypher

This difficult Masonic Cypher skin was created by Scottie Cochran.

Plain Colored Lite

A simple skin that's fun to use. Created by Maxx Sat.

Anton's Collection

The 10 elegant felt-tip and pencil style skins above were made by Anton. You can download the entire collection and use them all, or select only the ones you want. Anton has also promised some great skins for SuperDoku 2.0.

Classica

Jasper Hoek from the Netherlands made this rich and elegant skin. He has also promised to create some skins for SuperDoku 2.0, so keep your eye out!

Classica MidNight

Another skin from Jasper Hoek. This one is perfect for playing late at night because it doesn't light up the whole room when people are sleeping.

Umabud's Collection

The above (and left) five skins belong to a collection made by Umabud: Hebrew, Auto, Bunt, Traffic and Script.

Greek

I love this skin, but that's probably because I'm a math and physics minor so these symbols are a part of my life. Beautifully created by Lynn Boyette.

Runes

Thanyrion created this skin based on ancient runes.

Large

This skin, made by Jarrod, is simple, elegant, and visually pleasing.

Green

Hennell's first skin, of many to come, I hope.

RuneStone

This skin, made by Darston, is based off the old Rune alphabet "Futhark" that was used by the Nordic and Germanic tribes of Northern Europe. There are three Runes from each of the three "Aetts," or groups of 8 Runes, the names are: Fehu, Uruz, Kenaz, Naudhiz, Perthro, Sowilo, Tiwaz, Dagaz, and Othala. More info on the meanings and history of the Runes can be found at http://www.futhark.com

Letters

This skin, made by Kerf, uses the 9 most common letters in the English language. It shows how a type of "Wordoku" can be achieved by using skins in SuperDoku.

.: What is SuperDoku?

SuperDoku is a version of SuDoku for the Pocket PC that uses a graphical interface instead of just numbers in squares. This means you can play using colored gems, Egyptian symbols, Hebrew letters, Signs of the Zodiac, or pretty much any thing else (including, of course, numbers in squares). If you don't know how to play, you can find instructions here: <How to Play> and some pretty cool strategies here: <Strategies>

.: Download & Install

You can download SuperDoku v1.1 here: <Download>. Inside the .ZIP file, there's a readme and a .CAB file. Just copy the .CAB file onto your device (using ActiveSync's "Explore Device" function or using an SD or CF card). Tap the file in your device's File Explorer, and it will automatically install. It might tell you that your device isn't supported, but let it install anyway. It'll still work. If you get some error regarding missing files, you probably need to install the .NET Compact Framework. You can get that here: <.NET Compact Framework 2.0>. It comes as a .MSI file, so you open it on your computer and it installs through ActiveSync. It's a 24mb file, but when it installs onto your device, it only takes up around 2mb.

.: Screenshots

I wish I had another screenshot to put here, but there are no more skins! If you make one and send it to me, I'll put it on this page! It's really easy to make a skin. Just copy one of the .png skin files from the /Program Files/SuperDoku/Skins folder on your device and use it as a template for your new skin.

.: Features

8 different difficulty levels It does not just load grids from files. It randomly generates them each time so you'll never run out!
Beat lower difficulty levels to earn higher difficulty levels Or email me if you want a cheat code.
Solves entered-in puzzles Using the "Burn Grid as New Game" tool.
Load and Save functions You can save up to 5 SuDokus to work on later. Comes with auto-save options.
Pencil Marks Little numbers in the corners of the squares that some people like to use to remind them of what can go where.
Crayon Marks You can draw notes right onto the screen in 4 different colors, and 3 different thicknesses. As far as I know, SuperDoku is the only program that lets you do this.
Hints Two kinds, spoiler and non-spoiler. It can show you the location of a square that can be narrowed down to one option, or it can fill in the square for you. If you use hints, though, you won't earn higher difficulty levels.
Reveal Mistakes Lets you know if you're on the right track by blinking incorrect squares. If any mistakes are revealed, you won't earn higher difficulty levels. You are not penalized if no mistakes are revealed.
Bold Selected This makes it really easy to focus on a certain number by "bolding" every square already containing that number. If you've ever done a paper SuDoku, you've found yourself wishing they had this option.
Bold Original Game Makes it easy to see which squares you can edit and which you can not.
Skinnable Interface The game comes with a few nice skins, and I'll upload new ones here periodically. Also, it's really easy to make your own skins and send them in so other people can download them.
And the #1 Feature: IT'S COMPLETELY FREE!

Of course, donations are always gladly accepted!
