Lab #2: SQL Primer
Date: Thursday, September 14, 2006
Due: Thursday, September 21, 2006
In order to become more familiar with Structured Query Language (SQL), enter all the examples of SQL from Chapter 2 of the textbook (Kroenke, 10th Ed.) into Microsoft Access and report on the results. Specifically, write a report that summarizes which queries run correctly (i.e. you get the same output that the book says you should get) and which queries run incorrectly or produce errors. Further, try to fix the queries (if you can) to see if you can make them work (sometimes there are simple fixes to the Access SQL query problems). To make the job simpler, just focus on the queries that caused problems or contained errors. Simply cut and paste the SQL code of the query and describe what went wrong when you ran it.
To eliminate the data entry task, simply download the sample database from Kroenke's Companion Website. One of his 'Chapter2*.mdb' files already contains the tables and relationships (but not the queries).
Write your report in either "Word.doc" format or Adobe "Acrobat.pdf" format and submit it to me via email (to: blessing@msoe.edu) no later than the due date above.
