The Boundary waters Canoe Area is a
wilderness area in northern Minnesota designated for canoeing and
hiking. Inside the wilderness area there are no motorized vehicles
allowed. Entry in to the BWCA is regulated by permit and there is
plenty of piece and quiet. Camping is only allowed at designated
campsites which are outfitted with cooking greats, fire rings, and
wilderness latrines.
I have ventured in the BWCA three times and have had a very enjoyable
experiences. Below are pictures from the two most recent trips in
the BWCA.
2006 Trip with summer interns from FHR

This was a paddle in and make base camp fishing expedition. The
lake was beautiful and the fishing was great. We got the best
campsite on the lake which was on an island and had no bugs and no
pestering wildlife. I recommend this style of BWCA camping for
families and novice outdoors people.
2003 Trip with high school friends

This was a more rigorous trip with many long portages and lots of
paddling usually into the wind. This was a very fun trip but there
was a lot of work involved. We paddled to a new campsite each day
and covered in 5 days over 50 miles of paddling and portages. I
would not recommend this trip to any one who has not done a traveling
canoe trip before. |
