Rachel Smiles - The Spiritual Legacy of Columbine Martyr Rachel Scott by Darrell Scott

June 29th, 2005 - I just finished reading this book and had to post some comments. First off I would like to share how my life has been impacted by Columbine and Rachel Scott in particular. I honestly don't remember much about April 20, 1999, but I do remember one fall evening in 2003 when Darrell Scott came to speak in Milwaukee. I went to that event with several friends and what I was confronted with challenged me.

A few days later I purchased two books "Chain Reaction" and "Rachel Smiles." I read "Chain Reaction" imediatly and I know that the way I view my life has changed because of Rachel's inspiration and example. Not only did I latch onto some of Rachel quotes, I also began to look for opportunities to love those around me and treat them as I would like to be treated.

It is now nearly 2 years later and I am in Shanghai, China for the summer when I picked up "Rachel Smiles" I remembered who Rachel was but her challenge had faded in my life. At first I thought, what can a book sharing stories of how Rachel's life do for me. I soon found the answer to this question. The book served as an incredible witness to the power of God to use evil for his glory. This is something that I have known in theory but the examples found in the pages of this book bear witness to the wonderful way that death has brought forth life and tears have changed to smiles.

I am not going to give away any more of the book but I highly recommend both "Chain Reaction" and "Rachel Smiles" to anyone looking for a good read. Feel free to ask me about them and I would be more than willing to let you borrow my copy.
