Thursday, October 23, 2003I am so excited right now, I know that I am going to have a long journal entry this week anyways so I might as well write some of it now and the rest on Sunday. So far this week there is one major thing that happened and that is what I am going to focus this entry on. Everything else would seem so insignificant after this that I might just as well not waste your or my time. The big event of the week was when Darrell Scott came to speak at Marquette on Tuesday evening. This was such a great outreach opportunity. My one regret is that I was not able to get more of my friends and floor mates to attend. I know that everyone who was there was touched in some way.For me the story of Darrell's daughter Rachel was very sad. It is always sad when someone dies, especially when they are killed in such a tragedy. Fortunately for us, the speech did not dwell on being sad but instead focused on all the good that came out of Rachel's life. It was so amazing to hear the stories of all those who a young Christian was able to touch before she was even eighteen years old.It is also amazing to see all the lives that were touched through her death and the way that she would not deny Christ even when faced with death. I can only pray that I would be able to stand strong in that situation. I know that it was only through God that she could have done what she did. This testimony really inspired me to be more compassionate and kind to others around me. My favorite quote from the whole night and the main inspiration I leave you with is “You just may start a chain reaction" quote Rachel Scott.Take this as you may, I think it speaks to us as a generation of young American Christians that we can make a difference in our world one life at a time by the small reactions. Something little that we do could start a chain reaction like Rachel's life did. For more information check out http://www.rachelscott.com/ or http://www.columbineredemption.com/ |
