Kazuma Kuwabara
"I'm Kuwabara, the 2nd toughest punk at Sarayashiki Junior High!"


Kazuma Kuwabara is Yusuke's "side-kick", you could say. He's also Yusuke's most persistent rival, and he swears that one day, he will beat Yusuke! But, so far, no luck. Kuwabara got involved with the Spirit Detective after he "helped" to bring Yusuke back to life. (Yusuke possessed Kuwabara for a little while when he was in his ghost form in order to talk to Keiko. Then, Kuwabara was one of the lucky few chosen to have the "message dream" that would tell how to reawaken Yusuke- by kissing him! Kuwabara still seems scarred from the dream, or rather, nightmare, as he put it.)

Anyway, Kuwabara found out about Yusuke's job as Spirit Detective, so he is now one of Yusuke's most loyal team members. Incidentally, Kuwabara has an unnaturally high Spirit Awareness, which is why Yusuke possessed him. He went to Genkai to ask her to "tone down" this awarenss, but then, while competing in her tournament (which he accidentally entered), he discovered that he could harness his Spirit Energy into a sword- his Spirit Sword! The Spirit Sword is Kuwabara's most powerful weapon, and he has even learned how to create two Spirit Swords, as well as how to make it bend and be used for "pole-vaulting". (Highlight the next sentence with you cursor for a possible spoiler if you have not seen the Dark Tournament and after.) However, after the Dark Tournament, Kuwabara lost his ability to create his Spirit Sword, as well as his Spirit Awareness. Kuwabara is almost as good at fighting as Yusuke is, in fact. However, he has the lowest Spirit Energy level of the whole team, which actually makes him one of the weaker memebers as far as strength goes.

But, that's where Kuwabara's weakness end (except when it comes to girls and kittens). Kuwabara is strong-willed and has a fierce sense of loyalty to his friends. He lives his life by a very strict honor code, and will not break it under any circumstances. He would fight a match to the death if need be, and won't back down no matter what. He always keeps his word and is honest and dependable. He's always talking about "being a man", "fighting like a man", "a promise between men", stuff like that. And sometimes, I think that Kuwabara has the maturity of a man. Then again, sometimes he also has the maturity of a 2 year old. But, in any case, Kuwabara is a really great guy, and he'll always help out someone in need. With deep honor and loyalty, Kuwabara stands tall for what he believes in, even if no one will stand beside him.

But, even the strongest of men have their unfortunate weaknesses, and Kuwabara is certainly no exception. His one and only true love is an Ice Apparation named Yukina, who is, incidentally, Hiei's half sister. Kuwabara is quite unaware of this fact, so he still can't figure out why Yusuke and Kurama are both holding back laughter whenever Kuwabara brings up Yukina around Hiei, who simply glares at them, as if daring them to say anything about it. Kuwabara helped Yusuke and Botan save Yukina from Toroukunay, who had captured her (Yusuke's 4th case, I believe). He's had to say goodbye to her twice now, because each time, she had to return to the Ice World that she came from. Kuwabara swears that someday, he and Yukina will be able to be together. Whether or not this happens, well, no one knows as of yet...

Yusuke is definitely Kuwabara's closest friend, but Kuwabara also has a gang of three friends who's main goal is getting into fights. Lots of fights. Kuwabara is also pretty good friends with Kurama, who helped him to become stronger and to use his Spirit Sword in different, more powerful ways. However, Kuwabara doesn't get along with Hiei very well. The two are constantly arguing with each other, but Yusuke and Kurama can usually stop them before it gets out of hand. Even as much as they argue, Kuwabara would still help out Hiei if he had to, just because of his undying loyalty to his teammates. Kuwabara used to like Botan a little, but after he fell in love with Yukina, well, that was all just a thing of the past. (I think that Botan is relieved.) Kuwabara also has a secret weakness for kittens. He even has an adorable little kitten of his own, who Yusuke saved, the day after he had been revived. (There's a picture of the kitten that Yusuke saved on Yusuke's character bio.) Kuwabara also has an older sister named Shizuru Kuwabara, who also has a high Spirit Awareness (it must run in the family). We have never seen Kuwabara's parents in the series, but it is presumed that he does indeed have them.

Kuwabara is hot-headed and stubborn, with a very short temper. He's not the brightest crayon in the box, but he's loyal and has very high morals. Kazuma Kuwabara is a very valuable member of the Urameshi Team, and is willing to even sacrifice himself for the sake of his friends. He's a great guy, and a great side-kick. Go, Kuwabara! =D
