Z/Eves (Win2K) Installation
Dr. Mark J. Sebern
Preparation
- Sign the Z/Eves license agreement form and return it to the instructor.
- Copy the SE381ToolsCD directory tree from the installation CD to C:\.
Python/Tcl/Tk
- Open the WinSetup/Python directory in the installation tree.
- Double-click on py152.exe.
- Follow the installation directions, accepting the defaults. Allow it to
install Tcl/Tk, also with the default settings.
- Hack alert! - When the installation completes, copy the following
files
from C:\Program Files\Tcl\bin
to C:\Program Files\Python\DLLs:
The reason for this is to avoid error messages on Z/EVES startup; these
two DLLs are not in the system PATH, while the Python subdirectory is. Other
alternatives for solving this problem are possible, but this is expedient.
(This appears to be a problem in Win2K, but not Win98.)
Z/EVES
- Open the WinSetup/Zeves directory in the installation tree.
- Double-click on z-eves-pc-windows-acl-2.1.exe; unpacked files will
appear in the same directory.
- Double-click on setup.exe; follow the installation directions,
accepting the suggested file locations.
- Note: if you have not installed Z/EVES before, you may have to reboot
before the Z font will work correctly.
- You can start the Z/EVES GUI from the Start menu.
MikTex
-
Open the WinSetup/MikTeX23 directory in the installation tree.
- Double-click on setup.exe and follow the installation instructions,
accepting defaults ("install", "small",
"shared", "create
localtexmf", etc.).
- When the installation completes, open the C:\localtexmf
directory, create a tex directory; then create a latex directory inside
the tex directory. Inside this latex
directory, create a directory named Zeves.
- Copy z-eves.sty from C:\Z-EVES\2.1\doc to the C:\localtexmf\tex\latex\Zeves
directory.
- From the Start menu, run Programs->MikTeX\MikTeX Options;
on the General tab, click on the Refresh Now button for
the file name database. This makes the Z/EVES style file available to the
LaTeX processor. When you have done this, close the "options"
application.
- To test the operation of the LaTeX processor, open a command window (Programs->Accessories->CommandPrompt).
- Change to the WinSetup/Test directory in the installation tree.
- Type the command: pdflatex facsched-eve to process the facsched-eve.tex
input file. (On Win98, it may be necessary to modify the path so the system
can find pdflatex.)
- Open the resulting facsched-eve.pdf file with Acrobat Reader.
TeXnicCenter
- Open the WinSetup/TeXnicCenter directory in the installation tree.
- Double-click on the .exe setup file.
- Follow the installation directions.
-
When you run TeXnicCenter for the first time, it will ask for some configuration information:
- Accept MikTeX as the LaTeX processor.
- Skip the DVI viewer setup.
- Skip the PS viewer setup.
- Accept or enter the Acrobat Reader path in the PDF viewer setup.
If you have problems, consult the instructor. If you need to remove the
applications, you will have to manually delete the directory trees for localtexmf
and Python.
