Write Your Own Lab

Assignment

In this lab you will create your own lab and then complete it. You should limit the scope of your project to 5-10 hours work per team member. You may choose to extend the functionality of your HC11 operating system, e.g., implement additional scheduling algorithms, etc... or explore an operating systems issue with Linux or Windows. Your assignment should involve writing code or building hardware. If you are unable to identify an assignment, you may choose to do Dr. Welch's assignment instead.

Note: This lab will count as a one week lab even though you will be given to lab periods to work on it.

Lab report (due 3:00pm, the last day of class)

Your submission should include:

  • A text (preferred) or pdf (only if you need special formating or include diagrams) file with a few paragraphs describing your assignment and what you learned by doing it.
  • A zip'd archive containing all that is necessary to compile and run your project.

As with any report you submit, correct spelling and grammar are required. In addition, your report should be submitted electronically but you should include a text or pdf file instead of an XML document. Be sure to keep copies of all your files, in case something gets lost. It may be wise to keep a diskette backup as well.

Your grade will depend on the scope of the project, the quality of design, the clarity of code and documentation, and the degree to which you were able to achieve the results you desired. If you have any questions, consult your instructor.
