SE1020 -- Software Development II

This course continues the study of objected oriented software development using the Java programming language. Students design, document and implement software classes and incorporate these classes into larger software applications. Topics covered include abstraction, encapsulation, declaring and implementing abstract data types, interfaces, inheritance, polymorphism, and simple event-driven programming. (prereq: SE-1010) (2-2-3)

Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the rationale for object-oriented design and programming
  • Translate UML class and sequence diagrams into Java code
  • Select the appropriate repetition control statement for a given task
  • Declare and use collections of primitive and object data using arrays
  • Make appropriate use of the ArrayList class
  • Make appropriate use of exception handling
  • Make appropriate use of event handling
  • Apply composition, inheritance, and proper use of interfaces
  • Distinguish between inheritance and a Java interface
  • Define and make use of polymorphism
  • Design and implement simple Java classes and packages
  • Document and implement small software systems

The above course description and goals were taken from the official course description.
