Chuck's Trip to India

Due to a scheduling conflict, I got some free time this afternoon and took advantage of it by sight-seeing around Manipal.

This is the entrance to the MIT campus.

This is the courtyard inside the MIT main building.

The Hotel Management students are holding a festival this weekend to raise money for the victims of the tsunami. They promoted the event marching up "Main St." with a banner. So far, they've sold me two sets of tickets to the event.

Each afternoon since I've been here, two women have sold fresh fish on "Main St."

My hosts' Dr.'s U. D. Kamath and G. M. J. Bhat both told me I had to try the "tender coconuts" that are on sale at fruit stands all along "Main St." I did and they were right!

I discovered a MIT student hangout by their soccer grounds. I had fried rice with prawns and tea for dinner at this stand. The cost, less than a dollar.

Has this every happed during your soccer game? The cows really are everywhere.

After dinner, I hired a auto-rickshaw to bring me back to my hotel, the "Valley View."
