As you know we use Teamspeak for our "in-game"
communication purposes. Following are instructions on how to install the
Client and Server Teamspeak packages.
The Client package – is simply the
program you need to log into a server and start talking to your guildies.
The Server package – is the program
you need to install only if you want to have a Teamspeak server.
Find Out Your IP Addresses - Look here
to find out what your Local IP address and your Internet IP address is.
Client Package:
-
Download the Windows file “TeamSpeak 2 Client (RC2)”
from this
location.
-
Install the file you just downloaded.
-
Open the program. Should be called “TeamSpeak 2 RC2”.
-
Click on “Connection”
-
C lick on “Quick Connect”
-
Write the “IP address” in “Server Address”.
This is given to you by the person hosting the server.
-
Write the name for yourself under “Nickname”
-
Write the password under “Password”. If there is one
it is given to you by the person hosting the server.
Server Package (If you
want to have/host a Teamspeak server):
-
Download the Windows file “TeamSpeak 2 Server (RC2)”
from this
location.
-
Install the file you just downloaded. At some point during the
installation, you will be given an “Admin” password and
a “Superadmin” password. Write these passwords down as
you will need them (you can change them later).
-
Open the program. Should be called “Teamspeak2 Server”.
This starts your server up, and people should be able to log into
it (but you still need to set it up).
-
To set your server up, after you start it (step 3). On the lower
right part of your screen there will be a incon that kinda looks like
a little white dude with a blue background. Right click on it and
choose “Administration”. This will open a website page
where you need to log in with the password that I TOLD YOU to save.
“Admin” and “Superadmin” are very similar,
just log in as “Superadmin.”
-
After logging in as “Superadmin” go to “Global
Settings” and just put in your email address.
-
Go to “Servers” and delete the one that is already
there by default.
-
Then Click on “add server” and:
-
Enter a Server Name.
-
Enter a Server Welcome Message
-
IF YOU WANT enter a password (anyone who wants to log in will
need it).
-
Set max users to 16.
-
Set as clan server.
-
Don’t change anything else and click on “Add”.
The server is now created.
-
Click again in “Servers” and if the server you just
created in not started click on “Start” and then click
on “continue”
-
At this point the server is installed and working. You may look
at everything else here but you don’t really need to. You can
just “LogOut”.
a. You can go to “SuperAdmin Manager” and change the “superadmin”
password or simply create another client with “add client”
for which you can set the name and password so it is easier to remember.
This client you create has the same powers as “Superadmin”.
-
Wish this would be it but it isn’t. This is the point at
which most people get frustrated and give up. The server exists but
you still need to tell your computer that it needs to play well with
Teamspeak or it will just completely ignore it. Follow the following
steps to do so:
-
Open a browser (just click on whatever you use to browse the internet).
Click on the website address box (where you enter the address of a
website you want to visit) and enter: 192.168.2.1 (this is the address
of your internet router don’t worry about it too much). This
will open the program that manages your internet router. In one of
the menus (maybe under “Security”) you will see something
like “Port Forwarding”, click on it (and if u have a choice
click on “Persistent Port Forwarding”). Different routers
will have slightly different programs, but they should be something
like this:
-
Description – just write something like Teamspeak server
(or something like that).
-
Inbound Port – write 8767 (and 8767 again if there is
a dash next to the field).
-
Type – select “UDP”.
-
Private IP address – write the IP address of the machine
that is running the Teamspeak server. This address should be something
starting with 192.168.2 and another number from 3 to 254, for
example 192.168.2.52. If you don’t know what IP address
that computer has see the section bellow called “Find out
your IP addresses”.
-
Private Port – also enter 8767 here.
-
Click on “apply” or “save” and then
just log out.
Following all the steps above will allow you to run a TS server just fine.
If you have any problems they are probably not too hard to solve. Ask
Kidav Varagon or write to him at KidavVaragon@yahoo.com.
Find out your IP addresses:
There are two kinds of IP address and you will need to know both in
order to successfully host a TS server:
Local IP address – An address that your computer uses internally
to communicate within your network.
Internet/external IP address – An address that your computer uses
to communicate with the rest of the world.
Find out both by doing this:
-
Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape. Mozilla, etc) and
in the website address write: 192.168.2.1
-
Log in with the password (if it asks you to). This password should
be known by whoever installed the internet router (maybe your dad?
lol).
-
As soon as you log in the general information should be displayed.
If not, click on something like “Home” or “General
Settings”.
-
Look under “WAN IP ADDRESS” that is your Internet address.
-
Look under “DHCP Client List” there should be an IP
address starting with 192.168.2 and another number (for example 192.168.2.57).
This is you local address. If there are more than 1, the address you
want is the one next to the name of the computer that you are running
your server on.
